I am beginning to like the idea that there are no Artists, only painters, print-makers, sculptures, etc. Perhaps the idea of the Artist, the Master Creator, is only something we can aspire to become, or something you can only earn in death. This kind of humility in the studio, and in my case, before the canvas, serves to keep one open to inspiration, where ego-driven art tends to block inspiration. Humility also functions to help us remember that all art has room for improvement. The constant desire for improvement is one of the things that keeps us in business, keeps us making art.
